Project DULT

Deriving comprehensive insights on specific travel challenges faced by women in the city of Bengaluru, across transport modes and enhancement of existing policies and plans by incorporating data driven gender inclusive interventions

The Department of Urban Land Transport (DULT) funded project ‘Institutionalizing Gender SMART and Gender Astute Mobility’ aims to derive comprehensive insights on specific travel challenges faced by women in the city of Bengaluru across transport modes, to aid in the ongoing master plan preparation in Karnataka and enhancement of existing policies and plans by incorporating data driven gender inclusive interventions. The project will develop specific formats /templates and survey protocols for collecting data disaggregated by gender on a regular basis. The replicability of methodology developed during the project will enable the policy makers and government agencies to carry out longitudinal studies to implement better gender inclusive policies and develop continuous engagement mechanism.

(DULT), through the Karnataka Non-Motorised Transport Authority (KNMTA) started an initiative called ‘Sustainability Mobility Accords (SuMA)’. KNMTA has engaged with women from various sections of society in seven neighbourhoods of Bengaluru. Regular data collection, disaggregated by gender, has come across as a significant and urgent need. DULT has also developed a citizen engagement platform with the objective of furthering its engagement with individuals and organisations interested in urban mobility. The output of this project can be used to enhance the citizen engagement platform and build in the necessary data analytics for continuous engagement with women, across Karnataka.
