The Centre for Society and Policy (CSP) at IISc invites applications for a Research Analyst/Research Associate to contribute to the Bio-Responsibility Initiative.Centre for Society and Policy (CSP) is an academic centre at IISc, working on science, society and policy interface. The Bio-Responsibility project aims to analyse emerging biological threats through interdisciplinary research at the intersection of life science, policy and security.Beyond research, the initiative undertakes sustained engagement with policymakers, academic institutions, and security stakeholders to develop anticipatory governance approaches, along with extensive training programs to build national capacity to address evolving biorisks.

Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct rigorous interdisciplinary research on biosecurity involving integration of technical domain knowledge with policy analysis. 
  • Develop policy-relevant conceptual framework for biosecurity and bio-responsibility suited for Indian context. 
  • Design and implement qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including case study analysis, stakeholder consultations, surveys, and content analysis.
  • Produce scholarly outputs including peer-reviewed articles, policy briefs, strategy documents and technical reports.
  • Lead the planning and execution of national and international conferences, policy roundtables, and capacity-building workshops.
  • Qualifications:
    • Essential  
      • PhD/Masters in security studies, technology policy or international relations.
      • Proven expertise in non-traditional security issues. 
      • Demonstrated expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies such as case studies, discourse analysis, focus group discussions, surveys and quantitative content analysis.
      • Proven track record of publishing academic research articles and policy briefs. 
      • Experience in organising national/international events such as conferences, workshops and policy roundtables.
    • Desirable 
      • An understanding of life sciences, especially synthetic biology, genome editing and AI-biology interface. 
      • An understanding of biosecurity issues like dual-use research of concern and gain of function research.

 

  • Compensation:
  • Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, as per IISc institutional norms.
